Why we are backing Efiwe

Nigeria's growing digital economy is creating unprecedented demand for software development and digital skills, yet many young people remain excluded due to limited access to computers, unreliable internet connectivity, language barriers, and the high cost of quality training. These barriers are even more pronounced for learners in underserved communities, including persons with disabilities and displaced populations, who often have limited opportunities to participate in the digital economy. We are supporting Efiwe because we believe access to digital skills should not be determined by geography, connectivity, or socioeconomic status. Through its mobile-first platform, offline functionality, multilingual delivery, and accessibility features, Efiwe is making coding education more inclusive and accessible to learners who have traditionally been left behind. Through the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship, we will support the team in strengthening its execution and demonstrating how accessible digital learning can expand opportunities for more young Nigerians to participate in the future of work
